Ducks
We keep ducks for their ability to create compost for the garden, and really because they are just cute.
Welsh Harlequin Ducks
We love our quackers, they are so much fun to watch. We have 2 buff ducks in with our pure welsh crew, but they are older ducks and we enjoy having a little diversity!
Welsh Harlequin ducks are a beautiful rare breed. They were developed in Wales, UK, from the Khaki Campbell, which itself descended from a Rouen drake, originating in France, crossed with a Fawn and White Runner duck, originating in the islands of Southeast Asia, whose offspring were later crossed with a Mallard drake.
they are becoming a very popular breed due to their multi-purpose characteristics. They are excellent egg producers, due to their Khaki Campbell background, and have the instinct to sit and hatch a nest full of ducklings.
Ducky & Petrie
a perfect pair - hatched earlier in 2021. we found that ducklings are more difficult to hatch, due to humidity. round 2 of hatching was much more successful! we misted the eggs and kept a better watch on humidity and had at least 90% success rate. We pasture raised approx. 7 of them for butcher, and boy were they delicious! we retained some hens to keep younger layers in the bunch, and maybe we also had a hard time butchering them all. It's not easy to butcher, and it shouldn't be.
Welsh Harlequin Hen
These are such beautiful birds - we just love watching them, with their inquisitive personalities and beautiful feathers.
